General Notes Apply to All Courses

In order to comply with an interpretation of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Keep And Bear, LLC will only train United States Citizens.

NO LIVE AMMUNITION IN THE CLASSROOM!!!!

Unload your firearms and leave them secured in your vehicle. No live ammunition in the classroom also means NO concealed carry in the classroom. If you are going to use your firearm during live fire, wait for the instructor to tell you it is time to bring it to the range. Do NOT carry any ammunition into the classroom. Take your ammunition directly from your car to the range when directed by the Instructor.

Keep And Bear, LLC requires a waiver of liability to be on file BEFORE you take a course. Essentially you are verifying that your are allowed to shoot a firearm by the State of Florida, and that you recognize shooting a firearm involves some risk and that you take responsibility for your actions during the course.

You will also be required to fill out another waiver at the public range. Courses and lessons are held at the Indoor Shooting Company (ISC), 9402 East Fowler Avenue, Thonotosassa, FL 33592. Bring your drivers license with you.

Private Lesson - This is not an NRA-approved course

Individual or small group live fire sessions where the intent is improving your familiarization with your gun, improving your shot grouping, shot placement, or increasing your shooting experience.
Use of the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program can be incorporated. As an NRA Instructor and NRA Member, I can provide the the Witness Requirement for the Distinguished Expert rating.

Lesson Fee: $20 This includes one hour of instruction at a range and the use of the instructor's gun. The Student supplies the ammunition and pays the range fees.

NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting - ILT (Instructor Led Training)

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting (NRA BOPS) - Instructor Led Training (ILT) is the updated full Instructor led course. This course became available again on April 4, 2017 after the NRA Training Department changed it's policy on the Mantadory Blended Course. The equivalent prior course was termed the NRA Basic Pistol (NRA BP)

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is designed to teach a person the knowledge, skills, and attitude to handle and fire a gun safely. Three different guns are used in the live fire portion of the course. A single action revolver, a tradational double action revolver, and a semi-automatic pistol. If you don't know now, you will understand and have experienced those three by the end of the course.

Course Fee: $80 includes class, range fees, and ammunition for instructor supplied guns.

The Course will take a minimum of 8 hours. The course is structured into five lessons followed by an examination:

Lesson I: Pistol Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling
Lesson II: Ammunition Knowledge and The Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting
Lesson III: Shooting Positions and Shooting Qualification
Lesson IV: Scoring Targets, and Selecting and Maintaing Your Pistol
Lesson V: Continued Opportunities for Skill Development

The Student must score a minimum of 90% on the exam. The written exam has 50 multiple choice and True/False question. Students may have 5 chances to score a passing grade.

The minimum shooting qualification to receive a completion certificate requires the Student to place 5 shots in a 4 inch circle at 10 feet and repeat that four times.
The completion certificate from this NRA course can be used to satisfy the education requirements of Chapter 790, Section 06(2)(h)2 of Florida Statues for concealed carry applications.

If you want to use your own gun in place of one supplied by the instructor for part of the course, (Tradational Double Action Revolver, or Semi-Automatic Pistol), you will need to supply ammunition unless it uses .22LR.

NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course (PPIH)

The NRA Personal Protection In The Home Course is designed to develop in the students the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a firearm for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding citizen's right to self-defense. This course is not the starting point for a new shooter seeking training. Students should already be proficient with at least one type of handgun.

Course Fee: $130 includes class, range fees, and ammunition for instructor supplied guns.

The Course will take a minimum of 8 hours. The course is structured into seven lessons:

Lesson I: Introduction to Defensive Shooting
Lesson II: Basic Defensive Pistol Skills
Lesson III: Firarms and the Law
Lesson IV: Strategies for Home Safety and Responding to a Violent Confrontation
Lesson V: Selecting a Pistol for Self-Defense
Lesson VI: Sport Shooting Activities and Training Opportunities
Lesson VII: Course Review and Examination
